Case Studies

OTCR completes projects that allow students to learn by interacting with peers in a high-energy environment. Each semester, OTCR tackles 5-6 challenging engagements. Here are a few examples of our work to provide you with a perspective on our approach and our results.

Market Research

Client: Startup go-kart motor mount manufacturer

Business Problem: Client developed a new type of motor mount for go-karts and needed information about the current market and a strategy for bringing their new product into the market.

Our Approach:

  • Identified the most attractive markets for the product and provided an analysis of the competitors in each market
  • Estimated market size and potential for growth
  • Surveyed potential customers
  • Created a marketing strategy for the company
  • Provided recommendations on how to best differentiate the product

Process Evaluation

Client: Fortune 100 company

Business Problem: Client needed to improve their software development processes to reduce both the number of software bugs and the time-to-market for new products.

Our Approach:

  • Performed an on-site audit of current development processes
  • Spoke with stakeholders regarding current best practices
  • Identified key problems and presented findings to client's quality assurance officer
  • Created a checklist and workplan for bringing the client's development processes up to the next Capability and Maturity Model (CMM) level

Technology Integration

Client: Design facility at a Fortune 100 company

Business Problem: Client did not have an easy way for its large number of international working groups to collaborate.

Our Approach:

  • Implemented an intranet portal to connect the international working groups
  • Designed and planned the necessary system architecture
  • Created initial version on the OTCR development server
  • Performed user testing with key stakeholders and made refinements where necessary
  • Packaged and delivered the solution to the on-site production server
