About Us

Today's business climate is more vigorous than ever. Companies must stay familiar with new technological breakthroughs in order to make themselves more productive and efficient. These technologies are being developed at such an incredible rate that many companies must seek outside advice in order to understand how they can best harness these developments. Often times, these companies seek the services of large consulting firms to help give them an edge over their competitors. However, many companies do not have the monetary resources to hire these professional firms.

In 2000, several students, led by Bill Ho and John Hebda, at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, recognized that in the local community alone, there were many companies that were seeking high quality consulting services, but were not in a position to pay for the services of top tier consulting firms. Together, they decided to form the Office for Technical Consulting Resources (OTCR), a non-profit consulting organization run by extremely bright and technically proficient students at the University of Illinois.

OTCR has now evolved from the vision of a few people to an organization that has become well known and reputed throughout the University and the community. OTCR has successfully completed several projects for a variety of clients, ranging from small start-up firms to Fortune 50 companies. OTCR has enabled companies to improve their day-to-day operations by helping them with their technology and strategic business needs.

Mission Statement

To consistently provide quality work that meets or exceeds customer requirements and to enable our consultants to achieve excellence in the consulting industry.

Beliefs

Teamwork, Business, Leadership, Learning

OTCR is an organization that was founded on the basis of teamwork and shared leadership roles. To OTCR, teamwork represents a set of values that encourage listening and responding constructively to views expressed by others, providing support, and recognizing the interests and achievements of our members and clients. OTCR considers leadership essential in achieving our goals and producing results. Leadership in OTCR is driven by the technical and business initiatives taken at all levels within the organization. In order to provide value to our members and clientele, OTCR provides an environment that is conducive to learning new ideas and challenging our old ones. OTCR facilitates learning through open-ended discussion and active problem solving and encourages discussing, deciding, and doing real work together.
